High school graduation
The high school graduation ceremony is always an important occasion for all DP2 students, parents and staff. It was extra special this year with the Director General of the IBO, Dr Siva Kumari, as the keynote speaker. Sandefjords Blad reported on the event.

Chess champion at Skagerak
Our Primary Years 3 student Lykke-Merlot Helliesen (8), won the Norwegian chess championship for her age level (2006 and younger), held in Bærum this past weekend - congratulations! See the article in Sandefjords Blad.

Marco Polo CAS group

Skagerak International Student student Veronica Frantzen has been nominated as one of three final candidates for Årets nykommer for Frivillighetsprisen. The criteria for being nominated is that the person has been active for under a year. We wish Veronica the best of luck when the decision is made 5 December.

Over the past few weeks, students at Skagerak International School have collected English childrens books for a library at a small primary school in Rongai, Kenya. The project is led by one of Skagerak's teachers, Yvonne Folan.

Superinspirerende på Skagerak
Akkurat nå priser rett over 100 SNF-medlemmer seg lykkelig over at de tok turen til Skagerak International School i dag morges.
Som vanlig i september hadde vi lagt vårt månedlige frokostmøte til Skagerak International School. Skolen var arrangør sammen med sin samarbeidspartner The Thor Heyerdahl Institute – som er nytt medlem hos oss – og rett over 100 mennesker fant veien til Framnes.
Etter god frokost og hyggelig mingling, der gårsdagens valg selvfølgelig var det heteste samtaletemaet, trakk forsamlingen inn i auditoriet. Marit holdt sin sedvanlige innledning og opplyste om utviklingen siden sist, før hun ga ordet til Hans Jørgen Firing. Firing er daglig leder på Skagerak International School, og presenterte skolen med historikk, tall og fakta. To av skolens 350 elever kom så på scenen og ga oss et innblikk i sin hverdag, før Beate Bjørge fra The Thor Heyerdahl Institute redegjorde for instituttets ve og vel.
Bjørge introduserte til slutt Liv Arnesen, som sitter i styret på Heyerdahl-instituttet. Og for et foredrag det ble!
Arnesen fortalte på ekstremt inspirerende og underholdende vis om opp- og nedturer i arktiske, polare og hjemlige strøk. Den tidligere læreren, forfatteren, motivatoren og polfareren greide på en helt normal måte å fortelle om fullstendig unormale turer og opplevelser. For eksempel klatring på verdens høyeste fjell, verdens mest ugjestmilde strøk, skiturer i 60 minusgrader, 125 kilo tunge pulker, frostskader, isbjørner og høydesyke.
I tillegg til ekstreme opphold utenfor komfortsonen, greide Arnesen med sitt foredrag – som hun har kalt «I med- og motvind i Arktis og Antarktis – og på jobben» – å linke opplevelsene og erfaringene sine til situasjoner i hverdag og arbeidsliv som de fleste kan relatere seg til. Nøkkelen er å jobbe godt og riktig sammen i team, gjøre hverandre gode, ha det gøy, sette seg mål, applaudere måloppnåelse underveis, inspirere hverandre og fokusere på de riktige tingene, fortalte hun.
Alt i alt en utrolig inspirerende opplevelse og et foredrag vi tror mange kommer til å prate om i lunsjen og i dagene som kommer.
Vi i SNF skal i hvert fall slutte å klage på været.

Parents, students and staff thoroughly enjoyed the annual winter show performed by the Primary students, followed by the Parent Council's food and entertainment contribution for the evening. A big thank you to all those who helped make the evening a success!

PY6 visits Store Bergan skole
On Tuesday 15 October, PY6 was invited to spend a day with 6. klasse at Store Bergan skole. Students from both schools conversed in English while participating in the fun activities Store Bergan had planned for the day including English lessons, baking and lunch around a bonfire.

Reduction in High school Diploma Programme tuition fees
The Diploma Programme of Skagerak International School, High School has been approved as in accordance with the Private School Act of Norway. As a result, effective from August 2014, school fees for the Diploma Programme will be reduced by more than half to NOK 20.790, subject to the state budget.
