Rainbow Winter Performance
We invite you to this year's winter performance on Thursday 13th December, 18:00 in the Lars Ask. The theme for this year's performance is The Rainbow! PY6 will be representing the colour violet. It would be really great if students could start looking to see if they have any violet clothing at home that they could wear for the end of the performance (I'm hoping to create a giant Skagerak rainbow).
Students have been, or will be, allocated a part in the main part of the play. As with every other year there are no expectations for costumes. However, if you did want to prepare something for your child to wear it would be welcomed.
We are using plenty of time in school learning parts and lyrics, so it should be a colourful and exciting show to finish 2018. Please do get in contact if you have any questions about the performance or if you know your child will not be able to attend the performance.
Many thanks, Miss Sommerschield

A friendly reminder that the Skagerak Primary School has a policy with student mobile phones:
If a student is bringing a mobile phone to school in grades PY1-6, it is for emergency or after school communication purposes, and it is to be kept in the students school bag for the duration of the day.
Mobile phones should not be used or heard during school time without teacher approval during approved times.
Inappropriate student use of phones, including cameras on the phones, will result in short-term confiscation until the end of the day.
Unfortunately, we have had some recent incidents with misuse of mobile phones during the school day and would appreciate parental support with this. As always, please contact the school at any time should you have any questions or concerns.

MY4 work experience days, 26 & 27 November
On Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 November, MY4 students will spend two days shadowing a job that they feel would be of interest to them. Job shadowing is intended to give students a realistic picture to the relevant tasks and responsibilities for a job where appropriate. Hosts are encouraged to give tasks that are meaningful and engage students which can help them develop key employ-ability skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, communication and time management. A survey will be distributed at the end of the second day so that hosts can give feedback on the student and their experience.
Here is the link to the form for those who are willing to host students. This form will remain open until Friday 26 October. Ms Sarah Sommerschield or Ms Fredriksen will contact you by 01 November to confirm student placement and make any further arrangements as necessary.
Thank you for investing your time and expertise in the Skagerak community.

Future Problem Solvers - Skagerak participating in international conference in Wisconsin, USA
3 teams of students from the Primary and Middle Schools have been invited to represent Norway at the Future Problem Solvers (FPS) International Conference in America, where they will compete with students from around the world solving potential future scenarios about the global issue of criminal justice systems. The Skagerak students voluntarily chose to attend sessions run by Ms Schäfer this academic year, where they were taught how to think, rather than what to think. They researched a variety of global issues, such as infectious diseases, toxic materials, philanthrocapitalism and cloud storage, and followed a six-step model of critical and creative thinking, problem solving and decision making to solve potential future problems related to these issues. The students had to raise their level of comprehension and view issues from multiple perspectives, identifying underlying problems and coming up with possible solutions, which they then turned into action plans. Approximately 2,200 students from all over the world are expected to attend this year´s conference, held at University of Wisconsin (La Crosse in Wisconsin, USA), from June 6 – 10, 2018. As the only participating school in Norway, our teams will not only be representing Skagerak, but Norway, too.
If you would like to donate to help fund their trip, please use https://www.gofundme.com/SkagerakFPS

The Middle School will be hosting a Sustainability Museum next Friday 27 April kl.1300 to kl.1515. This will be the culmination of the middle school's focus days where students will be inquiring into sustainable consumption and purposeful reuse. This process is designed to investigate how we can sustain the use of something, thereby reducing the need to a) create waste and b) consume more stuff.
This event also coincides with the PY5 loppemarked and the Y11 student sustainable business challenge.
Come and join us to share in increasing awareness about responsible consumption of goods and purposeful reuse.
