Future Problem Solvers - to the USA!

FPSPI is a U.S. non-profit organization established in 1974, and has grown into an international academic program, challenging students to think creatively and futuristically. Since its inception, the program has grown to include students from 13 countries and 36 states in the US. Over 23,000 students officially participated in 2018-19.

Skagerak is sending 18 students to this year's FPS conference held at the university of Massachusett, near Boston, USA

Shreya Sen, Art for a Cause

DP1 student Shreya Sen will be displaying her art at Sandefjord's public library for the month of April, as part of her CAS activities. This is her first solo exhibit and any sales income will be donated to charity. We hope that many from the Skagerak community can visit the library and support her CAS activity. With such obvious talent, we wish her the very best in any future artistic endeavours!

School strike for the climate

On Friday 22 March, Skagerak Middle school students will be joining students from other Sandefjord ungdomsskoler, in support of the worldwide youth movement demanding more environmental friendly political action.

Hiring of international teachers

A new proposal from the Ministry of Education is asking for international teachers to have lived in Norway for 2 years in order to be issued a Norwegian police clearance, as required by Norwegian law. This prevents any direct hiring of international teachers. Actions are being taken to revised this proposal.

Norwegian champion in judo

Middle school student Emil Starup-Jensen successfully fought his way to both a gold and a silver medal in the Norwegian Championships in Judo in Sandehallen i Sande this weekend - congratulations!

Skagerak's MY3 student Ramona Ellen Lundberg is celebrated in today's Sandefjords Blad under Dagens navn. Music and theatre is already a significant part of Ramona's life and she is excited about her contribution the Messafestivalen in Tønsberg this weekend.

Skagerak International School in Tønsberg

Director Hans Jørgen Firing has started the process of establishing Skagerak International School in Tønsberg, with the intention of opening from August 2020 in the old Slottsfjellskolen in the centre of Tønsberg. The goal is a primary and middle school for approximately 200 students.

Internet fraud

Unfortunately, Skagerak International School is recently a victim of internet fraud where unknown sources take information from our website and offer non-existent teaching jobs to teachers. The local newspaper Sandefjords Blad made it first page news.

UngSOS Sandefjord

High school graduation

The high school graduation ceremony is always an important occasion for all DP2 students, parents and staff. It was extra special this year with the Director General of the IBO, Dr Siva Kumari, as the keynote speaker. Sandefjords Blad reported on the event.

Skagerak International Student student Veronica Frantzen has been nominated as one of three final candidates for Årets nykommer for Frivillighetsprisen. The criteria for being nominated is that the person has been active for under a year. We wish Veronica the best of luck when the decision is made 5 December.

Kenya

Over the past few weeks, students at Skagerak International School have collected English childrens books for a library at a small primary school in Rongai, Kenya. The project is led by one of Skagerak's teachers, Yvonne Folan.
